<description><![CDATA[Beginning on January 1, 2005, a new law referred to as the Unauthorized Substances Tax (UST) went into practice in Tennessee. The legislation, which allocated a one-time expense of $1.2 million to assess and collect the UST, and an annual disbursement of $800,000 to enforce the tax, was created to levy an excise tax on illegal drugs and alcohol to generate revenue for the state general fund and state and local law enforcement agencies.]]></description>
